"The Diane dress is a Girl Friday classic... it fits everyone, and is absolute perfection."

Top: Nick & Mo- Ginger Gingham Top- $65
Necklace: Hen- Vintage Necklace- $46

"This outfit has instigated my love for plaid. It's plaid, but not grunge. This outfit makes me want to go on a picnic... but one with martinis that ends with dancing under the moonlight."

Top: Akiko- Feather peasant top- $235
Jeans: Dish- Paris "8" Portofino- $92

"The top is stunning... the jeans are even better. It's so nice to have a skinny jean that actually has a higher rise. When I sit down I don't have to show my underwear to the rest of the world and it's under $100! The quality of the denim is fantastic, the wash is very sophisticated, and these jeans are not so skinny that you can't wear them every day, and will easily tuck into boots this Winter!"

What's in the Window this Week?

It's that time of year... you're not quite ready to put your jeans on, but it feels like it's time to retire the summer dresses and flip flops for the season. I've seen this dress on a lot of different body types and it looks great on everyone. It's perfect for right now with bare legs and ballet flats, or in a month with tights and boots!

Dress: Girl Friday "Delila Dress"- $130
Brooch: Cpak- $16

What's in the Window this Week

Top: Kersh Black long sleeve- $26
Jeans: Dish "Paris" Ultra Skinny in Elba- $92
Vest: NUMPH "Mille" Sweater -$120
Necklace: Threes Company Heart Necklace-$24
This outfit was inspired by the purple NUMPH vest. It says "Fall" to me. It secretly makes me wish for the leaves to change and cool breezes to blow into the city, just so I can be seen around town wearing this sweater vest!!

Back to School Disasters!

I know that many of us are no longer in school, but doesn't September inspire you to start fresh? I always get the itch around this time... I'm tired of my Summer wardrobe, and want to look different.... and fabulous, of course!

That being said, I'm sure we've all had back to school fashion disasters. We all try to re-create ourselves, and sometimes it works... but when you're young, it often doesn't. Who doesn't remember picking out that perfect outfit for the first day of school, and having it turn into a total nightmare? We'd like to share with you some of our first day faux-pas, and to show you some looks from Girl Friday's Fall collections to get you in the mood to try something new, without catastrophic results!

My biggest fashion disaster (I've had so many) was on my first day at a new school and new town. I had moved from a school that was super-preppy (this was the late 80's) to a rural community. I really wanted to look extra cool and wore a pair of forest green jodhpur pants and an ivory Ralph Lauren button down shirt (you know, the one with the horse). I felt like I had just stepped out of a magazine, until I got to school. Everyone was wearing either ripped up jeans and t-shirts, or cowboy shirts, hats, and boots (Alberta cowboy country). I stuck out like such a sore thumb. My outfit yelled "New Girl from the City!"

Now, let's hear from Kelsey:
"This was my first day of Grade 8. I had saved up my Summer allowance for back-to-school shopping (if I hadn't I would have been forced to peruse the racks of Zeller's with my mom). I proceeded to Le Chateau, which was the COOLEST store at the mall. I saw a shirt hanging on the rack, and immediately knew it had to be mine. I couldn't wait until the first day of school to wear it! I showed up to school thinking that I was wearing the best outfit you've ever seen. Apparently, baby-doll t-shirts with stripes and neon cat-heads flying was not considered cool. The whole day everyone laughed at my t-shirt when they saw me, and it took a year to pass until they stopped making fun of me and the shirt!"

Here's Kelsey's Ultimate Fall Outfit!

She's wearing:
Top: Free People Chain Tank- $136
Jeans: Dish "Paris Ultra Skinny" Elba wash- $92
Boot: Rocketdog "Chain Gang Boot"- $100
Earrings: HEN Coin dangles- $52

Here's Tessa's Back-to-School disaster:
"You know how everyone wants to be in the popular crew? Well, I was no exception. I'm a tomboy, so during the first week of school I joined the Field Hockey team and after try-outs my knees were grass-stained. I found the cool girls sitting on the bleachers and went to sit with them, hoping to be included. It was going well, until one of them asked me why my knees were dirty. I got up to go to the washroom to clean them, which was when I lost my balance and fell off the bleachers and immediately out of the cool crew!"

Here's Tessa's Ultimate Fall Outfit!

Tessa's wearing:
Dress: Colcci Argyle Dress- $100
Leggings: C'est Moi- $20
Cardigan: Colcci- $110
Necklace: HEN Vintage Hidden Gem necklace- $56
Boots: Steven "Reinaa" Boot in Black- $190
Bag: SQ Purple Braided Purse- $50

Here's Jenn's sad story:
"I went to a school with uniforms, so my first day of school was never exciting, except for the year that I tried out some turquoise highlights in my hair to spice up my outfit and they turned partially orange! Then, I added some combat boots to go with my kilt. FASHION DISASTER!!!"

Here's Jenn's Ultimate Fall outfit!

Jenn's wearing:
Sweater-dress: Numph- Marils Owl Sweater- $110
Necklace: Cpak Gold Chains- $25
Clutch: Hobo Nancy in Yam- $125
Shoes: Rocket Dog "Memories" Black Nubuck Flat- $65

Girl Friday Summer Sale 70% off

Why are we having such an incredible sale? Well, in Toronto, it seems like we just got Summer, so I have the feeling it's going to last until October (fingers crossed). Hopefully, there are still many opportunities to wear the pieces from our gorgeous Summer selection and now it's 70% off!  I'd hate to depress all of our loyal GF customers by selling only Fall merchandise (sweaters and jeans and Fall-type things). Granted, our new Autumn selection is absolutely gorgeous, but maybe we'll all buy a few things for the weather we're having (amazing), and the weather we can definitely expect (cashmere, anyone?)

Don't forget... the trends don't change that drastically, especially at Girl Friday. I promise the bargains you buy today will still look great next Spring!

Girl Friday 50% off Sale!

This is one of my favourite sales of the year.... Isn't it great when you still have over a month left of great weather (fingers crossed) and now there are so many amazing things at 50% off? As you all know (or should by now), none of our merchandise at Girl Friday ever really goes out of style, so you'll still get a month or so to wear these amazing pieces and when you pull them out next Spring they'll still feel brand new. No guilt, new clothes, great deals.... what a fantastic combination!

Sneak Preview of Girl Friday Spring 2010!

Here's a sneak peak of our Spring 2010 collection for all of you die hard Girl Friday fans (I hope I have some!)

We're getting ready to send the collection to our sales agents in Canada. I've spent many grueling hours working on this collection, and have many people to thank for their collaboration.

I want to thank...
Genevieve Smolders- a fantastic photographer and graphic designer.... she improves every day and is so incredibly talented.
Katherine Kates- makeup and hair... She sees things that we might miss during a photo shoot. I'm so awed by her experience and talent. I appreciate her taking time out of her work day to come on set with us.
Jennifer Hickey- one of my most extraordinary assistants.
Jessica Simms- one of my other extraordinary assistants.

I have to give a huge shout out to my girls (assistants) Jess and Jenn. It's not the easiest job to create a collection, and they've both been extremely hardworking and entertaining during the whole process. It has been a pleasure to work with both Jess and Jenn.... they're true gems!
