Tip 1: Get the Right Support
Nothing makes you look bigger than wearing the wrong sized bra. Wear a bra that's too small, and you look like you're busting out of it (and look bigger). Wear a bra too big or with inadequate support, and the "girls" look like they're hanging around your knees. Trust me when I say a good fitting bra is worth every penny. Most better lingerie retailers will have a trained professional to help you find the right size. You should definitely get your size checked after losing/gaining weight, or having children.
Tip 2: Block it Out
Colour blocking is an amazing way to look instantly slimmer. Heavier on the bottom? Wear darker colours on the bottom to camouflage problem areas. Have fantastic legs, but a bit of a belly? Draw attention to your legs and bum area with a lighter coloured skirt or skinny jean and darker top. Look at the amazingly talented, Kate Winslet (above) to see how she used her curves and her dress to get noticed.
Tip 3: Add a Little Structure
Blazers are the best invention in the whole world for looking slim and trim. They can add structure to a shoulder and if you leave them unbuttoned, they can cover a multitude of sins. Wearing monochromatic tops and bottoms under a patterned blazer will further give the illusion that you're long and lean. Kim Kardashian (above) uses blazers all the time to flatter her hourglass figure.
Tip 4: Cinch it all Together
A belt can be a girl's best friend...especially, if you have a tiny waist. It adds an exclamation point to a small waist. If you're like me (completely wast-less), I use them underneath my bust, or at my hips...giving the illusion that I have more curves. Rachel Bilson (above) emphasizes her tiny waist by highlighting it with a skinny belt.
Tip 5: Beat the Blues
Denim is a necessary part of our culture. Every woman needs a great pair of jeans. If you're looking to hide a few extra pounds, I strongly suggest getting a pair of dark denim. You don't always have to follow the trends. Skinny jeans not your thing? Try a trouser or straight leg, but think about wearing them with a heel to elongate your leg. Jennifer Garner (above) used dark denim to highlight the positive and detract from her post-baby weight. There are so many other tips that I can share with you. I really can help you feel better in your own skin. If you'd like to set up a personal buying appointment with me, please contact me at rebecca@girlfridayclothing.com
